Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how Ertuğrul Sarı ("we," "our," or "us") collects, uses, and handles information when you use Comic Scanner (the "App"). By downloading, installing, or using the App, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy.
1. Who We Are
The App is developed and operated by Ertuğrul Sarı, an independent developer. For any privacy-related questions, contact us at [email protected].
2. Our Privacy Stance
Here is the short version:
- We do not require accounts, sign-ins, or email addresses.
- We do not collect, sell, rent, or share your personal data with advertisers or data brokers.
- We ask before the first photo you scan ever leaves your device, in plain language, and you can withdraw that permission at any time.
- Your comic library — the photos you keep, your grades, your notes — is stored only on your device.
- We do not use advertising identifiers, App Tracking Transparency, session replay, or cross-app tracking of any kind.
- Subscription management is handled by RevenueCat.
3. Information We Collect
Information You Provide
When you scan a comic, the App sends the photo you take or choose to an AI vision service to identify the issue and estimate its condition. This requires your permission, which the App asks for before your first scan and remembers until you withdraw it in Settings. If you ask a follow-up question about a comic you have already scanned, its cover photo and your question are sent the same way, under the same permission.
You may also give a comic a title, a personal grade, and keep it in your library. All of this — the photo, the grade, any note you add — is stored in a private, on-device library folder that belongs to the App. We do not have access to it, and it never leaves your device unless you export it yourself.
Information Collected Automatically
The App does not collect your name, email address, contacts, location, or browsing history. It does not use advertising identifiers and does not request App Tracking Transparency, because it does not track you across other apps or websites.
The App does collect anonymous product analytics: which screens you visit, whether a scan was identified, unreadable, or not a comic, how long a scan took, and whether the paywall was shown, dismissed, or converted. This is never tied to your name or email, never includes the photo itself or what it shows, and never includes a title, a grade, or a note you wrote. No session replay, no screen recording, and no IP-based location are collected.
If you subscribe to a premium plan, the App receives subscription state from RevenueCat (described in Section 5). RevenueCat assigns a pseudonymous identifier to your installation, which cannot be linked back to you personally — the App has no accounts, so RevenueCat never receives your name, email, or any other contact information alongside it.
What We Do Not Collect
We do not collect payment card information; all payments are processed by Apple. We do not access your contacts, calendars, microphone, location, motion data, or Apple Health. We do not maintain user profiles, and we do not use cookies.
4. How We Use Your Information
The photo you scan is sent once, to identify the comic and assess its condition, and to answer any follow-up question you ask about it. We do not know, and cannot control, how long the AI vision provider retains that photo after it answers — see Section 5.
Your library — covers, titles, grades, notes — is used solely to show your collection inside the App, on your device. Anonymous analytics are used only to understand which parts of the App work and which do not, so we can fix what is broken without needing you to tell us.
Your subscription entitlement is used only to determine whether you are on the premium plan, which unlocks the corresponding App features.
5. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell, trade, or rent your information to anyone. We share data only in the following limited circumstances.
AI vision provider: To identify a comic and answer questions about it, the photo you scan and your question text are sent to Google's Gemini models, accessed through OpenRouter, a routing service. Neither receives your name, email, or any other information that identifies you — only the photo and the text of your question. Google's Privacy Policy applies: https://policies.google.com/privacy. Apple: All purchases are processed by Apple under your Apple ID. Apple shares with us only the information required to verify your purchase. Apple's Privacy Policy applies: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/
RevenueCat: RevenueCat manages your in-app subscription on our behalf. It receives a pseudonymous installation identifier, your purchase receipt from Apple, and your entitlement status. It does not receive your comic library, your name, or your email. RevenueCat Privacy Policy: https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy
PostHog: We use PostHog for anonymous product analytics, configured with tracking, autocapture, session replay, and IP-based geolocation disabled. It receives the events described in Section 3 and a pseudonymous device identifier, never your library, a photo, or anything you typed. PostHog Privacy Policy: https://posthog.com/privacy
Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or valid legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Ertuğrul Sarı, our users, or the public.
6. Data Storage and Retention
Your comic library — covers, titles, grades, and notes — is stored on your device and persists until you delete a comic within the App or uninstall the App. Uninstalling the App removes all on-device data. A scanned photo sent for identification is held on our servers only as long as it takes to process the request, for up to 30 minutes, and is then deleted automatically; what the AI provider retains on its own systems is governed by its own policy, linked in Section 5. Subscription state is stored on RevenueCat's servers per their retention policy and can be reset by contacting Apple to cancel and refund your purchase.
7. Your Consent, and Withdrawing It
Before your first scan, the App asks whether you allow a photo to be sent for identification. Agreeing is remembered so you are not asked again. You can withdraw this permission at any time from Settings → App → Identifying with AI inside the App; the next time you try to scan, you will be asked again.
8. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed to children under the age of 13, or under 16 in the European Economic Area. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information through the App, please contact us at [email protected] and we will take appropriate steps.
9. Your Rights and Choices
Because we do not maintain any user account database, nearly all of your data — your library, its covers, its grades and notes — resides on your own device, which you control directly.
To delete all on-device data, delete individual comics within the App, or uninstall the App to remove everything at once.
If you are a resident of the European Economic Area, you have rights to access, correct, or erase personal data we hold, as well as rights to data portability and to object to processing. Because nearly all data is stored on your own device, most of these rights can be exercised directly within the App. For any remaining requests, contact us at [email protected].
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect and to request its deletion. We do not sell personal information. Contact us at [email protected] for any requests.
If you are a resident of Turkey, you have rights under the KVKK (Law on the Protection of Personal Data No. 6698), including rights to access, rectification, and erasure. Contact us at [email protected].
10. Security
The App stores your library in your device's protected storage, which benefits from the encryption iOS applies at rest. Communications with our AI vision provider, RevenueCat, PostHog, and Apple's purchase services are protected by HTTPS/TLS. However, no method of storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this document and, where appropriate, through a notice in the App or the App Store listing. Your continued use of the App after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
