Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how Ertuğrul Sarı ("we," "our," or "us") collects, uses, and handles information when you use Jewelry Identifier (the "App"). By downloading, installing, or using the App, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy.
1. Who We Are
The App is developed and operated by Ertuğrul Sarı, an independent developer. For any privacy-related questions, contact us at [email protected].
2. Our Privacy Stance
Here is the short version:
- We do not require accounts, sign-ins, or email addresses.
- We do not collect, sell, rent, or share your personal data with advertisers or data brokers.
- We ask before the first photograph you take ever leaves your device, in plain language, and nothing is sent until you confirm it.
- Your collection — the pieces you keep, their photographs, and their readings — is stored only on your device.
- We do not use advertising identifiers, App Tracking Transparency, session replay, or cross-app tracking of any kind.
- Subscription management is handled by RevenueCat.
3. Information We Collect
Information You Provide
When you identify a piece, the App sends the photograph you take or choose to an AI vision service, which reads it and returns what it can determine: the metal and its karat, any hallmarks or maker's marks it can make out, the era and style, the condition, and an estimated value range. This requires your permission, which the App asks for before the first photograph is ever sent.
If you ask a follow-up question about a piece you have already identified, the question you typed is sent to the same service, together with a summary of that piece's reading and the questions and answers already exchanged about it, so that the answer is about the right piece. The photograph itself is not sent again. This is covered by the same permission.
Every reading the App gets back is kept in a private, on-device library folder that belongs to the App, together with the photograph it came from. We do not have access to that folder, and nothing in it leaves your device unless you share a record yourself.
Information Collected Automatically
The App does not collect your name, email address, contacts, location, or browsing history. It does not use advertising identifiers and does not request App Tracking Transparency, because it does not track you across other apps or websites.
The App does collect anonymous product analytics: which screens you visit, whether an identification came back identified, unreadable, or not jewellery, roughly how confident the reading was, how long it took, and whether the paywall was shown, dismissed, or converted. This is never tied to your name or email, never includes the photograph itself or what it shows, and never includes the name, the estimated value, or any other detail of a piece you own. No session replay, no screen recording, and no IP-based location are collected.
If you subscribe to a premium plan, the App receives subscription state from RevenueCat (described in Section 5). RevenueCat assigns a pseudonymous identifier to your installation, which cannot be linked back to you personally — the App has no accounts, so RevenueCat never receives your name, email, or any other contact information alongside it.
What We Do Not Collect
We do not collect payment card information; all payments are processed by Apple. We do not access your contacts, calendars, microphone, location, motion data, or Apple Health. We do not maintain user profiles, and we do not use cookies.
When you choose an existing photograph instead of taking one, the App uses Apple's system photo picker, which runs outside the App. The App receives only the single photograph you pick and never gains access to your photo library.
4. How We Use Your Information
The photograph you submit is sent once, to identify the piece and estimate its value. We do not know, and cannot control, how long the AI vision provider retains that photograph after it answers — see Section 5.
Your collection — photographs, names, readings, and estimated values — is used solely to show your collection inside the App, on your device. Anonymous analytics are used only to understand which parts of the App work and which do not, so we can fix what is broken without needing you to tell us.
Your subscription entitlement is used only to determine whether you are on the premium plan, which unlocks the corresponding App features.
5. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell, trade, or rent your information to anyone. We share data only in the following limited circumstances.
AI vision provider: To identify a piece, the photograph you submit is sent to Google's Gemini models, accessed through OpenRouter, a routing service. To answer a follow-up question, the question and the reading of that piece are sent the same way. Neither receives your name, email, or any other information that identifies you. Google's Privacy Policy applies: https://policies.google.com/privacy. OpenRouter's Privacy Policy applies: https://openrouter.ai/privacy
Apple: All purchases are processed by Apple under your Apple ID. Apple shares with us only the information required to verify your purchase. Apple's Privacy Policy applies: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/
RevenueCat: RevenueCat manages your in-app subscription on our behalf. It receives a pseudonymous installation identifier, your purchase receipt from Apple, and your entitlement status. It does not receive your collection, your name, or your email. RevenueCat Privacy Policy: https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy
PostHog: We use PostHog for anonymous product analytics, configured with tracking, autocapture, session replay, and IP-based geolocation disabled. It receives the events described in Section 3 and a pseudonymous device identifier, never your collection, a photograph, or anything you typed. PostHog Privacy Policy: https://posthog.com/privacy
Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or valid legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Ertuğrul Sarı, our users, or the public.
6. Data Storage and Retention
Your collection — photographs, names, readings, estimated values, and any follow-up questions and answers — is stored on your device and persists until you delete a record within the App or uninstall the App. Deleting a record deletes the conversation about it as well. Uninstalling the App removes all on-device data. A photograph or question submitted for identification or an answer is held on our servers only for as long as it takes to answer the request and is not written to storage on our side; we keep no conversation, which is why the App sends the previous questions back up with each new one; what the AI provider retains on its own systems is governed by its own policy, linked in Section 5. Subscription state is stored on RevenueCat's servers per their retention policy and can be reset by contacting Apple to cancel and refund your purchase.
7. Your Consent
Before the first photograph is sent, the App asks whether you allow it to be submitted for identification, and nothing is sent unless you confirm. Declining cancels that attempt and is not stored, so the next time you reach for the feature you are asked again. Agreeing is remembered on your device so that you are not asked before every piece.
The App does not currently offer a control for revoking that agreement once given. Deleting the App from your device removes it, along with everything else the App has stored. If you would like your agreement revoked for any other reason, contact us at [email protected].
8. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed to children under the age of 13, or under 16 in the European Economic Area. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information through the App, please contact us at [email protected] and we will take appropriate steps.
9. Your Rights and Choices
Because we do not maintain any user account database, nearly all of your data — your collection, its photographs, its readings and estimated values — resides on your own device, which you control directly.
To delete all on-device data, delete individual records within the App, or uninstall the App to remove everything at once.
If you are a resident of the European Economic Area, you have rights to access, correct, or erase personal data we hold, as well as rights to data portability and to object to processing. Because nearly all data is stored on your own device, most of these rights can be exercised directly within the App. For any remaining requests, contact us at [email protected].
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect and to request its deletion. We do not sell personal information. Contact us at [email protected] for any requests.
If you are a resident of Turkey, you have rights under the KVKK (Law on the Protection of Personal Data No. 6698), including rights to access, rectification, and erasure. Contact us at [email protected].
10. Security
The App stores your collection in your device's protected storage, which benefits from the encryption iOS applies at rest. Communications with our AI vision provider, RevenueCat, PostHog, and Apple's purchase services are protected by HTTPS/TLS. However, no method of storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this document and, where appropriate, through a notice in the App or the App Store listing. Your continued use of the App after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
